SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/23/10 -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR) today announced that it will demonstrate several new technologies and products at OFC, including a 10 Gb/s tunable XFP transceiver operating from 8.5 to 11.3 Gb/s across multiple protocols, an Edge Wavelength Processor (EWP) 1x2 port 50 GHz Wavelength Selective Switch, and a WaveShaper Optical Processor. Based on innovations such as high-performance Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology and high-volume manufacturing capabilities, these demonstrations confirm Finisar's commitment to providing developers and system integrators with the key tools and equipment they need to design and implement reliable, high-speed communications applications. Demonstrations will take place in Finisar's booth #1613 at OFC/NFOEC in San Diego, March 23-25, 2010.
10 Gb/s Tunable XFP
Highlighting Finisar's exhibit will be the 10 Gb/s tunable C-Band XFP, a wavelength-tunable optical transceiver designed for high-volume production. The demonstration will show the transceiver's wavelength-changing abilities and superior optical performance required for high-bandwidth optical transport networks. The performance exceeds many industry standard specifications such as SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet, and Fiber Channel. Providing full C-Band wavelength selection in a compact form factor, the transceiver has exceptional power dissipation margin to MSA requirements. The tunable XFP enables greater line card density, flexible provisioning to match changing bandwidth demand, decreased maintenance cost through remote configurability, and simplified inventory control.
"Finisar is a market leader in fiber optic transceiver technology with the facilities in-place to support a high-volume ramp of the tunable XFP," said Rafik Ward, Vice President of Marketing at Finisar. "We are uniquely positioned to address the specific technical and manufacturing needs of OEMs as they make the transition to tunable transceivers."
EWP Wavelength Selective Switch
Finisar will also be showing a demonstration of its EWP 1x2 Wavelength Selective Switch in operation under typical network application conditions. Based on Finisar's industry-leading LCoS technology, the EWP provides 1x2 / 2x1 port operation at 50/100 GHz channel spacing with broad pass-band and full 0-20 dB attenuation control without compromising 40/100 G functionality or performance. The EWP also supports dual 50/100 GHz channel operation and channel contouring. The EWP employs advanced High Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (HTCC) hermetic packaging technology, which together with its advanced optical design, allows it to fit onto a single height card. This compact design provides a cost-effective dynamic switching solution for the network edge.
Programmable Optical Processors
Finisar will also demonstrate three LCoS-based products from its WaveShaper family of Programmable Optical Processors. The WaveShaper family offers the unique capability to control both the amplitude and phase characteristics of filters and switches to simplify development and testing of high-speed optical systems at 40 and 100 Gb/s.
- The S-Series WaveShaper, currently shipping, offers independently programmable control of the amplitude and phase characteristics of an optical filter. It provides an extensive range of control functions, including adjustable center frequency, high extinction, programmable dispersion, and support for both narrow-band and broad-band system testing. It is the ideal tool for DWDM system and component testing, optical pulse shaping and control, and high-speed optical research and development.
- Being shown for the first time is the M-Series WaveShaper. Measuring just 210 x 140 x 37 mm, the M-Series is designed for systems integrators who wish to utilize WaveShaper's unique amplitude and phase control capabilities as part of their own system or subsystem. Available as both a Programmable Optical Filter and as a four-port Programmable Optical Processor, the M-Series WaveShaper begins shipping in calendar Q2 2010.
- The P76 Shape Selectable Filter, also being shown for the first time, is a tunable optical filter with programmable center frequency, bandwidth and the ability to select the filter shape from a range of built-in profiles including Flat-Top, Gaussian, and Lorentzian. The P76 contains no moving parts and is easily controlled from its touch-screen display.
In addition to these demonstrations, Finisar will display equipment from its wide portfolio of optical products, including transceivers, transponders, WSS ROADMs, advanced optical components, and passive devices. For more information about OFC/NFOEC, visit www.ofcnfoec.org.
