Posted on May 03, 2012 at 15:52 PM EDT
An art fair called Frieze New York is making its debut with works from 180 contemporary galleries from around the world. The fair runs Friday through Monday under a huge tent on Randall's Island overlooking the East River. Exhibitors who are regulars at Frieze London also are participating. Frieze London is one of the biggest events in the world of contemporary art. Newer galleries will be represented in a section called Frieze Focus and Frieze Frame. The New York installation also features a temporary sculpture park where new works by Ernesto Neto, Tomas Saraceno and other artists will be shown. Also featured will be eight new public arts projects curated by Cecilia Alemani, the curator and director of the art program at the High Line elevated park.
