The American Chemistry Council (ACC) is proud to support member company BASF in the company's efforts to save energy and enhance sustainability through vehicle efficiency with its smart forvision concept vehicle, a collaboration with automotive company Daimler.
"We are proud to have developed a holistic concept for sustainable urban mobility in cooperation with Daimler," says Dr. Martin Jung, BASF's automotive research spokesperson. "Together we are presenting a pioneering vehicle which is without parallel."
Among other energy-efficient features, the car has a light-transmitting roof with solar cells that will generate energy and power the car's climate control system. A new kind of infrared-reflective film from BASF applied in the windscreen and side windows protects the car interior from heating up in the summer.
Chemistry has the power to increase energy efficiency and reduce the amount of energy consumed annually. An ACC study found that the chemistry in energy-saving products and technologies helps save up to 10.9 quadrillion Btus of energy annually, enough to power up to 56 million households or up to 135 million vehicles each year, and saving Americans up to $85 billion in energy costs annually.
ACC encourages the use of innovations to increase energy efficiency. The "From Chemistry to Energy" website will feature spotlights that highlight "The Chemistry of Energy Efficiency" for the next several weeks.
