Airlines Raise Fares

United Continental Holdings Inc. (NYSE: UAL) and U. S. Airways Group Inc. (NYSE: LCC) increased airfares after Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced a $10 hike on flights that are less than 500 miles each way. Shares of United climbed $1.05 to close at $19.45 while U. S. Airways stock gained 51 cents to close at $10.59. Southwest stock rose 31 cents to close at $9.44.
