Great companies can even be too expensive and this is the case for salesforce .com inc. ( CRM ) who is the leader in the growing software as a service industry but the stock was called possibly too hot for its own good. This markets difficulty can be cited as it was simultaneously downgraded and upgraded by analyst at Goldman Sachs and one at UBS this week. Normally disagreement is about a fundamental issue with a company but for CRM it was not the case here as both the analyst agreed that it is the best run business in its industry with the best management. The quarter will be good and recurring revenue is fabulous. The split comes down to risk/reward. Goldman says the hype surrounding the stock will be its downfall and Cramer agreed. The positive buzz surrounding the stock has been priced into it. Its so expensive because it is priced for price for flawless execution and it is not the time to expect perfection. There may be 10 points of upside left here but 30 points of downside. Investors should not buy no matter how tempting the business. If they stumble the stock could crater and the competition in this area could help if the falter. NetSuite Inc. ( N ) is now public and new IPOs ready to pop up along with Oracle Corporation ( ORCL ) and Microsoft Corporation ( MSFT ) out there to cause problems. This is a terrific company but the stock is saddled with a bad risk/reward that is more likely to hurt investors than help them. CRM VIDEO
