Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced that its EClamp(TM)238xP family of resistor-capacitor (R-C) protection devices has been named to the EDN Hot 100 Products of 2007 list of the most significant components, design and test tools announced in 2007.
Every year, the magazine’s editors select the new products in 12 categories that they feel generated the most interest from their readers. The EClamp238xP product line was announced in July 2007 and is designed with the low capacitance, high attenuation and low clamping voltage needed for high-frequency color LCD interfaces in GSM and CDMA-based 3G handsets.
In writing about the product in July, EDN Technical Editor Paul Rako lauded Semtech’s ability to deliver very low capacitance in an R-C device, and commented that the achievement was overlooked by the press because its in a product category that is conceptually simple. “It (the EClamp238xP) is a triumph of process engineering, physics and manufacturing, not circuit design,” Rako said.

The EClamp238xP series includes the four-line EClamp2384P, the six-line EClamp2386P and the eight-line EClamp2388P. The EClamp238xP’s three-pole R-C filter network has a 200 Ohm resistor and two 12pF capacitors, enabling the devices to offer minimal attenuation in the passband and 30 dB minimum attenuation from 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz, ideal for GSM, CDMA or 3G-based mobile phones.
