MARKET UP STRONG - IT'S RAINING KNIVES
Posted on July 16, 2008 at 21:58 PM EDT
Today in the market, Wednesday July 16, 2008: Stocks were up strong today on falling crude oil prices and Bernanke's positive statements on the GSEs. The S&P500 climbed to +2.51% and the Nasdaq soared to +3.12%. A great day overall as advancing issues topped decliners 74% to 24%. Is this the start so sometime big?..only time will tell. RSI’s Themes: It was a day with only one ETF/CEF pick but many stock picks. Also there was a deluge of 34 falling knives. Okay what are the themes. The CEF pick is a Municipal income fund...a conservative, defensive play. The stock picks have some healthcare stocks and many foreign based companies. And then there are the falling knife gaggle that represent many, if not all, of the beaten down sectors. ETF/CEF Low Volatility: PIF - Insured Muni Incm Fund This closed end fund pays a yield of 4.58% federal tax free. Not too shabby. Stocks Medium Volatility: ACC - American Campus Communities Inc. BKC - Burger King Holdings Inc. COST - Costco Wholesale Corp. COV - Covidien Ltd. FMX - Fomento Econmico Mexicano SAB HCN - Health Care REIT, Inc. PDA - Perdigao S.A. SBS - Companhia de Saneamento Stocks High Volatility: HIL - Hill International Inc. Stock Picks New to RSI: American Campus Communities, Inc. (ACC) , a real estate investment trust (REIT), engages in the acquisition, design, finance, development, lease, and management of student housing properties in the United States. Health Care REIT , Inc. is an equity real estate investment trust. The firm engages in investment, development, and management of properties. It primarily invests in health care properties. Take your pick if you are into bottom fishing,,,there are some interesting sectors and market niches in this mix. Happy hunting!
